Any athlete that cannot adhere to the District's Student-Athlete Code of conduct or the expectations of our program specifically, will be asked to leave the team.

Team Policies & Expectations:

ATTENDANCE:

You are here to make a commitment to the sport, the team and yourself. Don’t miss for avoidable situations. After

8 total absences * you have ended your season and hopefully next year, you can be more committed. It’s not fair to your teammates when you do not show up daily. Now that you have the calendar, you can schedule things accordingly. Being absent from school does not count toward your 8 absences. I understand there are things you have had scheduled before the cross country calendar was available. Please have your daughter discuss the absence date a week or more IN ADVANCE!

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: (essentially anything that is due to poor planning or a lack of communication)

                                   - No ride to practice/meets - plan accordingly

                                   - Dr., Dentist, Ortho apts.

                                   - Clubs after school - Sports come before clubs AND...clubs meet early enough for you to make practice                                                 - ACT/SAT prep courses (they are available throughout the year)

                                   - Birthdays

                                   - Babysitting, or work (take your XC schedule to your boss)

                                   - Other sports or club sports

GRADES:

In order to be eligible you must be passing 5 of your classes.  This is both a school and IHSA policy. There are no exceptions! However, if you are failing a class, you will be meeting with Coach Schader to discuss how you can get your grades back on track.  You must maintain a focus in the classroom in order to truly represent Leyden Cross Country.

UNIFORMS:

You must wear you school-issued uniform to meets.  Please invest in a sports bra that is neutral in color and therefore will be well-hidden by the singlet.  You may not alter the uniform in any way. (Rolling shorts, tying the straps, etc are all not allowed.) Also, you are responsible for you uniform and therefore must return it in the condition it was given to you at the end of the season.

INJURIES:

Running is not a contact sport, but injuries are still a possibility.  The number one way to prevent an injury is to invest in quality running shoes, and wear them every day.  Remember, some aches are just your muscles getting stronger and it’s best to work through it. If you are feeling an ache or pain that is more than the usual fatigue, follow these steps to ensure that it goes away and does not get worse.

  • Tell one of the coaches so WE can help determine the best course of action

  • See the trainer

  • Take care of yourself (ice, stretch, every day)

  • Do NOT self-diagnose, or tell us you can’t run

SPORTSMANSHIP:

Participating in cross country, or any sport at Leyden is a PRIVILEGE not a RIGHT. “The name on the front of your jersey is more important than the name on the back”.Remember that everywhere you go, “LEYDEN” is on every article of clothing you wear and therefore the way you behave and treat others is not just a reflection of you, but your team, your coaches, and your school. If you show un-sportsman like behavior of any kind it will result in immediate dismissal from the team.
